London-Inspired Interior Design

The couple, inspired by beautiful London storefronts, aimed to bring this charm into their spacious five-room HDB flat. The dark-framed sliding doors reminiscent of London shopfronts, the customised storage solutions, and the open-concept kitchen all contribute to this home’s unique ambience. Unlike most HDB flats in Singapore that feature standard layouts, this unit boasts a unique trapezium-shaped shared living and dining area. Expert space planning was vital to ensure that every inch of the angled space was fully utilised and the unique interior architecture was embraced and elevated.

The layout was meticulously designed to ensure functionality and style. The main entrance opens into an open-concept kitchen, drawing the eye towards the far end of the home, where the entertainment room and balcony are styled like London shopfronts with dark-framed sliding doors. This creates an airy and open feel, perfect for hosting large gatherings. The living area is furnished with a generous sofa and additional seating on the balcony.

Explore the shopfront-inspired interior design features where dark surfaces beautifully frame the entertainment room. The dark green hue complements the bar stools, and the doors to the storeroom and master bedroom blend seamlessly into the woodgrain-clad walls. This cohesive design transforms the trapezium-shaped space into a delightful area.

The open-concept kitchen is not just a design feature, but a functional space that enhances the sense of spaciousness in this home. It’s perfect for a couple who loves hosting large groups of family and friends, accommodating up to 20 people at a time. The living area, dining area, and breakfast counter all serve as inviting gathering spaces. Large-format floor tiles with subtle stone patterns further amplify the open feel, ensuring a practical and spacious environment.

With its daybed, the entertainment room is a perfect space for kids to gather while the adults are deep in conversation. The drawers that come with the daybed add to the repertoire of storage solutions throughout the home. Marble-like laminates on the walls add visual interest and an upscale feel.

Step into the master bedroom through a hidden door. The cosy woodgrain flooring and a splash of blue on the bedhead wall create a serene atmosphere. A portion of the wall separating the bedroom from the entertainment room was removed to maximise space by constructing a flush-built wardrobe. On the other side, it is a television wall in the entertainment room. This interior design strategy ensures ample room to move around the bedroom while placing the wardrobe conveniently close to the master bathroom.

The bathrooms feature a modern aesthetic, with patterned tiles and vibrant vanity cabinets that inject pops of colour and create focal points in each space. Stone patterns on the walls add sophistication, while black and white patterns lend a whimsical, youthful touch. These design elements, while aesthetically pleasing, also serve a functional purpose: to create energising retreats.
